Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup 168g unsalted butter
  • 1 cup 212g packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup 50g granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 large egg yolk room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 3/4 cup 220g all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • Flaky sea salt optional
  • 1 1/4 cups 210g semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring frequently until it turns golden brown with a nutty aroma (about 5–7 minutes). Let it cool slightly.
  • In a bowl, mix the browned butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar.
  • Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  • Fold in flour, baking soda, and salt until just combined.
  • Gently fold in chocolate chips.
  • Cover and chill the dough for at least 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets.
  • Scoop dough portions and place them 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 12–13 minutes until edges are golden and centers are soft.
  • Sprinkle with flaky salt and cool slightly before serving.
  • These Chocolate Chip Cookies develop deeper flavor thanks to the chilling step and browned butter technique.

Notes

  • Swap chocolate chips with chunks for a rustic texture
  • Add chopped nuts for crunch
  • Serve warm with milk or coffee
