Ingredients

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon seasoning salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • ⅓ cup soy sauce
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 2 garlic cloves minced
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger

Instructions

  • Add the flour, seasoning salt, and black pepper to a large shallow bowl and stir until combined.
  • Pat the chicken thighs dry with paper towels. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour, turning until lightly coated on all sides. Shake off any excess flour.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large, deep skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Carefully arrange the coated chicken thighs in the hot pan, leaving a little space between each piece.
  • Cook for approximately 15 minutes, turning every 4–5 minutes so the chicken develops an even golden-brown exterior.
  • Continue cooking until the thickest part of the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • While the chicken cooks, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a medium bowl. Stir until the honey and brown sugar are well incorporated.
  • Reduce the heat to medium and carefully pour the prepared honey garlic sauce into the skillet.
  • Cook the Sticky Honey Garlic Chicken Thighs in the sauce for approximately 5 minutes, turning them several times so every piece becomes evenly coated.
  • Allow the sauce to gently bubble until it reduces into a thick, glossy glaze that clings to the chicken.
  • Remove from the heat and serve hot with some of the remaining sticky sauce spooned over the top.

Notes

Boneless, skinless chicken thighs are particularly good for this recipe because they remain juicy during pan cooking. Boneless chicken breast can be substituted, but cooking time will vary depending on thickness.
The sauce thickens as it cooks and will continue to become slightly thicker as it cools. Avoid reducing it for too long or the sugars may become overly caramelized.
For serving, pair these honey soy chicken thighs with steamed jasmine or basmati rice, noodles, broccoli, green beans, or stir-fried vegetables. A sprinkle of sesame seeds or sliced green onions also makes a flavorful finishing touch.
