Steak Cheese and Rice

Steak Cheese and Rice is a hearty one-pan meal with tender steak, seasoned rice, and creamy queso.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup long grain white rice
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion chopped
  • 1 tbsp minced garlic
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp dried cilantro
  • 1 pound sirloin steak
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Montreal steak seasoning
  • White queso halal-friendly
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Flour tortillas

Instructions
 

  • Rinse the rice thoroughly under cold water.
  • Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat and add the rice. Toast lightly, stirring frequently.
  • Add chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until fragrant.
  • Pour in chicken broth, tomato sauce, salt, pepper, cumin, and dried cilantro. Stir well.
  • Bring to a gentle boil, then cover and reduce heat to medium-low. Cook for about 20 minutes until the rice is tender.
  • In another skillet, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add sliced sirloin steak and season with steak seasoning.
  • Cook steak to your preferred doneness, then remove from heat.
  • Top the cooked rice with steak and drizzle generously with white queso.
  • Garnish with fresh cilantro. Serve as a bowl or wrap inside flour tortillas.
  • This Steak Cheese and Rice dish is best served warm for maximum flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Swap sirloin with ribeye or flank steak if preferred
  • Use brown rice for a healthier alternative (adjust cook time)
  • Serve with pico de gallo, salsa, or taco sauce for added freshness
