Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey breast
  • ¼ cup roasted green chile minced
  • 2 tablespoons chipotle peppers in adobo sauce minced
  • 1 very small onion finely minced
  • ¼ cup panko bread crumbs
  • 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Olive oil cooking spray
  • 4 burger buns
  • Sharp cheddar cheese slices optional
  • Green chile aioli optional
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato slices
  • Pickles
  • Red onion slices

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, roasted green chile, chipotle peppers, onion, panko breadcrumbs, mayonnaise, cumin, and garlic powder.
  • Mix gently using your hands until all ingredients are evenly incorporated. Avoid overmixing to keep the burgers tender.
  • Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape into burger patties approximately ¾-inch thick.
  • Preheat your grill to 300°F (150°C).
  • Lightly spray the grill grates with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  • Place the patties on the grill and cook for approximately 25–30 minutes, flipping once halfway through cooking.
  • Cook until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) using an instant-read thermometer.
  • During the last 5 minutes of grilling, top each burger with a slice of sharp cheddar cheese if desired.
  • Toast the burger buns lightly.
  • Assemble the Spicy Turkey Burgers on toasted buns with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and green chile aioli.
  • Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Ground turkey thigh meat produces even juicier burgers.
  • Whole wheat buns are a healthier option.
  • Serve with grilled corn, sweet potato fries, potato salad, or coleslaw.
  • Green chile aioli complements the smoky chipotle flavors perfectly.
