Ingredients

For the Dough

  • 500 g bread flour
  • 7 g active dry yeast
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 80 g melted butter
  • ¾ teaspoon salt
  • Extra butter for brushing

For the Filling

  • ¾ cup finely chopped spinach
  • ½ cup grated mozzarella cheese
  • ½ teaspoon dried herbs
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon white pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tablespoon cream cheese optional

Instructions

  • Warm the milk until slightly warm, not hot.
  • Add sugar and yeast to the milk. Stir gently and allow it to sit for 8–9 minutes until frothy.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, activated yeast mixture, egg, melted butter, and salt.
  • Mix until a rough dough forms.
  • Knead for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Transfer the dough to a lightly greased bowl. Cover and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  • While the dough rises, prepare the filling by combining spinach, mozzarella, dried herbs, garlic powder, white pepper, salt, and cream cheese if using.
  • Punch down the risen dough and divide into 10–12 equal portions.
  • Flatten each portion into a small round disc.
  • Add a spoonful of filling to the center.
  • Carefully seal the edges and shape into smooth balls.
  • Place the rolls seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking tray.
  • Cover and allow to rise again for 20–30 minutes.
  • Brush the tops with melted butter.
  • Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 18–22 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Brush with additional butter immediately after baking.
  • Serve the Homemade Bread Rolls warm.

Notes
