  • 8 oz cream cheese softened, brick-style (226g)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 4 cups powdered sugar 500g

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine the softened butter and cream cheese.
  • Beat on medium speed until the mixture becomes smooth, creamy, and free of lumps.
  • Add the vanilla extract and salt. Mix until fully incorporated.
  • Reduce the mixer speed to low.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Continue beating until the Cream Cheese Frosting is smooth, fluffy, and spreadable.
  • Use immediately to frost completely cooled cakes, cupcakes, cookies, or dessert bars.

Notes

  • This homemade cream cheese frosting pairs exceptionally well with carrot cake, red velvet cake, spice cake, pumpkin cake, and cinnamon rolls.
  • For chocolate cream cheese frosting, mix in ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder.
  • Reduce powdered sugar slightly for a less sweet frosting.
