Ingredients

  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 4-ounce packet saltine crackers, crushed
  • 1½ teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 1½ teaspoons onion powder
  • 1½ teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1½ teaspoons Montreal steak seasoning
  • 4 4-ounce beef cube steaks
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  • In a shallow bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.
  • In another shallow bowl, combine the flour, crushed saltine crackers, seasoned salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and Montreal steak seasoning.
  • Dip one cube steak into the egg mixture, allowing any excess to drip off.
  • Coat the steak thoroughly in the seasoned flour mixture, pressing gently so the coating sticks well.
  • Repeat with the remaining steaks.
  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Carefully place the coated steaks into the hot skillet.
  • Cook the Country Fried Steak Recipe for about 4 minutes per side, or until the coating is crisp and golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).

Notes

  • Add a pinch of cayenne pepper for extra heat.
  • Replace vegetable oil with canola or peanut oil for frying.
  • Pair with mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, biscuits, or coleslaw.
  • Leftovers make excellent steak sandwiches.
