Ingredients

  • 1 head cabbage
  • 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder divided
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika divided
  • 2 teaspoons paprika divided
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning divided
  • 2 teaspoons Old Bay seasoning divided
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon
  • 1 lemon juiced, divided
  • 6 tablespoons butter divided
  • Salt to taste
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 385°F (196°C).
  • Remove the core from the cabbage and make 6 deep cuts around the center, about 2 inches long and 1/4 of the way down.
  • Rub olive oil all over the cabbage.
  • Season the cabbage with 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, smoked paprika, paprika, Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning, and chicken bouillon.
  • Squeeze half the lemon over the cabbage and rub the spices evenly into the cuts and outer leaves.
  • Place 3 tablespoons butter in the center of the cabbage. Wrap tightly with two layers of foil and place on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 1 hour.
  • Meanwhile, melt the remaining butter and whisk in the remaining garlic powder, smoked paprika, paprika, Cajun seasoning, Old Bay seasoning, and lemon juice.
  • After the first hour, carefully unwrap the cabbage and spoon 1 to 2 tablespoons of the butter mixture over it. Rewrap tightly.
  • Bake for another hour until the cabbage is tender and flavorful.
  • Let the Cabbage Boil cool for 5 to 10 minutes. Season with salt and black pepper before serving with extra butter sauce if desired.

Notes

  • Fresh lemon juice gives the best flavor.
  • Smoked paprika adds deep smoky richness.
  • Leftover cabbage tastes even better the next day.
  • Pair with rice, cornbread, or grilled meats for a complete meal.
