Ingredients

  • cups warm water about 110°F
  • teaspoons quick rise yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar or honey
  • Pretzel salt optional

Optional Baking Soda Bath

  • 4 cups water
  • cup baking soda

Optional Egg Wash

  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water

Optional Butter Topping

  • 3 tablespoons butter melted

Instructions

Make the Dough

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the warm water and yeast. Stir and allow it to sit for a few minutes until slightly foamy.
  • Add flour, sugar, and sea salt. Stir until mostly combined.
  • Lightly flour your hands and knead the dough for about 1 minute until it forms a smooth ball. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.

Shape the Pretzel Bites

  • On a lightly floured surface, roll each portion into a rope. Slice into 1-inch pieces using a floured knife.
  • For extra classic pretzel flavor, dip the pieces into the optional baking soda bath for 20–30 seconds before air frying.
  • If using egg wash, brush lightly over the tops before cooking.

Air Fry

  • Lightly brush the air fryer basket with olive oil. Place pretzel bites inside, leaving space for expansion.
  • Air fry at 390°F for 6 minutes or until lightly golden brown.

Finish

  • If using butter topping, brush melted butter over hot pretzel bites and sprinkle with pretzel salt.
  • Serve warm with cheese sauce, mustard, or your favorite dip.

Notes

These air fryer pretzel bites are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the air fryer for 2–3 minutes to restore softness.
