Ingredients

  • 8 mozzarella cheese strings
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • ½ cup seasoned breadcrumbs
  • ½ cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Cooking spray or oil spray

Instructions

  • Cut each mozzarella cheese string in half to create 16 pieces.
  • In a small bowl, whisk together the eggs and water until fully combined.
  • In a second bowl, combine the seasoned breadcrumbs, Panko breadcrumbs, vegetable oil, and garlic powder.
  • Place the flour into a third shallow bowl and season lightly with salt and black pepper.
  • Coat each mozzarella stick in the flour, shaking off any excess.
  • Dip it into the egg mixture, making sure it is completely coated.
  • Roll it in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently so the coating sticks well.
  • For extra protection against cheese leaking, repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating one more time.
  • Arrange the coated mozzarella sticks on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Freeze for at least 30 minutes, or store frozen for up to 6 months.
  • Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C).
  • Spray the frozen mozzarella sticks generously with cooking spray or lightly brush them with oil.
  • Arrange them in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, leaving space between each stick.
  • Cook for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the coating is golden brown and crispy. Watch carefully during the final minute to prevent the cheese from bursting through the coating.
  • Serve immediately with warm marinara sauce, ranch dressing, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • String cheese works best because it melts evenly without becoming too runny.
  • Panko breadcrumbs create the crispiest coating.
  • Freeze leftovers before cooking for a quick snack anytime.
  • Pair with marinara sauce, garlic aioli, ranch dressing, or spicy buffalo sauce.
  • Sprinkle with chopped parsley and grated Parmesan before serving for an extra touch
