Ingredients

  • 400 g mozzarella block
  • 2 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tsp garlic granules
  • 1 large free-range egg
  • 40 g panko breadcrumbs
  • Olive oil cooking spray
  • Salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

  • Cut the mozzarella block into strips about 1.5cm wide. Pat each strip dry with kitchen paper.
  • In a shallow bowl, combine the plain flour and garlic granules.
  • In a second bowl, beat the egg with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
  • Place the panko breadcrumbs into a third shallow dish.
  • Coat each mozzarella strip in the flour mixture, then dip into the egg mixture. Repeat the flour and egg coating once more to create a double layer.
  • Roll the coated mozzarella sticks thoroughly in the panko breadcrumbs until fully covered.
  • Arrange the coated sticks on a tray and freeze for at least 30 minutes until completely firm.
  • Spray the air fryer basket lightly with olive oil spray. Place the Air Fryer Mozzarella Sticks in a single layer without overcrowding.
  • Spray the tops lightly with oil and air fry at 200°C for 10 minutes or until golden and crispy.
  • Repeat with remaining batches and serve immediately while hot and melty.

Notes

  • You can substitute mozzarella with cheddar cheese sticks for a different flavor.
  • Gluten-free breadcrumbs and flour can be used if needed.
  • Best served fresh for maximum crispiness and cheese pull.
