Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 2/3 cups hot water
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  • Add the hot water and vegetable oil. Mix with your hands until a soft dough forms and all liquid is absorbed.
  • If the dough feels sticky, add flour 1 tablespoon at a time until soft but not sticky.
  • Transfer the dough to a work surface and knead about 10 times until smooth.
  • Divide dough into 12 equal balls and flatten each slightly into a puck shape.
  • Lightly flour both sides of each piece, cover with a towel, and set aside.
  • Heat a large nonstick pan over medium-high heat.
  • Roll one dough piece into an 8-inch circle and place it in the hot pan.
  • Cook for about 1 minute, flip, and cook another 30 seconds until golden spots appear.
  • Transfer to a towel and keep covered while cooking remaining tortillas.

Notes
