Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened almond milk or preferred milk
  • 1 cup rolled oats certified gluten-free if needed
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup halal-suitable chocolate protein powder
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup or agave syrup or honey
  • ½ teaspoon alcohol-free vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Step 1: Choose your containers
  • Set out one medium jar or two smaller jars with lids.
  • If making two servings, you can mix everything in a bowl first and divide it evenly between the jars.
  • Step 2: Add the milk and flavorings
  • Pour the almond milk into your jar or mixing bowl. Add the cocoa powder, chocolate protein powder, maple syrup, and alcohol-free vanilla extract.
  • Stir thoroughly, pressing any dry clumps against the side of the jar with a spoon until the mixture looks smooth.
  • Step 3: Add the oats
  • Stir in the rolled oats until they are evenly coated and no dry pockets remain.
  • Scrape the bottom and sides of the jar to make sure the cocoa and protein powder are fully incorporated.
  • Step 4: Divide into servings
  • If you mixed the ingredients in one bowl, spoon the mixture into two jars.
  • Make sure each jar receives a similar amount of oats and liquid. Leave a little room at the top for stirring after chilling.
  • Step 5: Refrigerate
  • Cover the jar or jars and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, although overnight is preferred.
  • As the oats soak, they absorb the liquid and become softer and creamier.
  • Step 6: Stir before serving
  • Remove the jars from the refrigerator and stir well.
  • If the mixture has thickened more than you prefer, add a small splash of milk and stir until it reaches your desired consistency.
  • Step 7: Enjoy
  • Serve the Chocolate Protein Overnight Oats directly from the jar or transfer them to a bowl.
  • For the freshest texture, enjoy within 24 hours of mixing.

Notes

For a sweeter breakfast: Add a little more maple syrup after chilling, once you have tasted the oats.
For a less sweet version: Reduce or omit the maple syrup if your protein powder is already sweetened.
For a thicker texture: Use slightly less milk next time, or choose a protein powder that thickens well.
For a looser texture: Stir in extra milk just before serving.
